UNFOCUSED DREAMS III

Gülay Yüksel's solo exhibition "Unfocused Dreams III" will be on view at Gala Gallery from 17 to 30 January 2023.

Featuring approximately thirty recent works, the exhibition presents paintings in which emotional states associated with women's inner worlds are reflected on canvas through a figurative language. Describing the exhibition—which also marks the first presentation of her 50th year as an artist—Yüksel writes:

"There are women in my paintings. These are the women who have been with me in my past, my present, my imagination, and my dreams, yet who experience different emotions at every moment. They are women who live with overlapping memories, their happiness and unhappiness, their hopes, their disappointments, and all the memories they believe they have left behind. The challenge is to capture, with my brush on canvas, these layered memories so carefully preserved by our minds. Without silencing the other women within me—and within all of us—I try to give them a voice as well."
